1. Cookies We Use
Akari uses a small set of first-party cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and complete third-party sign-in flows. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
| Cookie | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| akari_session | Essential (HttpOnly) | Keeps you signed in to your Akari account. | Lasts for your session, or longer if you choose to stay signed in. |
| akari_refresh | Essential (HttpOnly) | Renews your session in the background so you stay signed in. | Same as akari_session. |
| akari-locale | Preference | Remembers the interface language you selected. | Until you change it or clear your cookies. |
| akari-preferences-v1 | Preference | Stores interface preferences such as theme, appearance, and reading settings. | Until you change them or clear your cookies. |
| OAuth bridge cookies (e.g. akari_google_oauth) | Essential | Carries secure state while you complete a Google or GitHub sign-in. | Minutes; removed as soon as the sign-in flow finishes or expires. |
2. Local Storage
In addition to cookies, the web app uses your browser's local storage for client-side state: theme initialization (to prevent a flash of the wrong theme on first paint), dismissed-banner state, and UI preferences mirrored from the preference cookie. This content lives in your browser on your device and is not used to identify you across sites.
3. Third-Party Services
- Payments: All payments are processed by Creem, our Merchant of Record. Creem may set its own cookies during checkout, which are governed by its own privacy policy.
- Sign-in: If you sign in with Google or GitHub, that provider's cookies are governed by its own cookie and privacy policies. The short-lived bridge cookie Akari sets during the flow is removed once sign-in completes.
4. No Tracking or Advertising Cookies
We do not run third-party analytics, advertising, or cross-site tracking pixels on this site. The cookies listed above are first-party and exist only to operate the service.
5. Managing Cookies
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. In short:
- Deleting the akari_session cookie signs you out of Akari.
- Clearing preference cookies or local storage resets your interface language and appearance to their defaults.
- Blocking essential cookies prevents sign-in and the use of account features.
The exact steps differ by browser; see your browser's help documentation for instructions.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
